Endlessly Now : Sama from Syria

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. This is what you need to do in Lebanon when doing anything in general, but also when you’re making a podcast. The internet is terrible here in Lebanon so a phone interview from Lebanon to Turkey would’ve been more of an effort in exasperated patience than having an intimate conversation about life. The solution : doing the entire interview through Whatsapp voice messages. Choosing to do the interview through Whatsapp voice messages took five times longer than a normal one hour interview: two nights and around five hours total, but it was worth it.

The goal of this podcast series was to interview people I barely knew but I couldn’t help already breaking the rules with Sama. Despite knowing her a long time I decided to chose her as my second interviewee. She was just too perfect of a candidate for this project. She’s also a bit secretive, so in some ways I did barely know her, and finally got this chance to know her better.

This is the second episode of the Endlessly Now podcast, a podcast in which I ask strangers a set of 23 questions to get to know them and humanity better. You can find Endlessly Now on any podcast app. Sama’s is Episode 2.
