Endlessly Now : Maria from Palestine/Cyprus

On my first day in Cyprus I met up Maria, a Palestinian woman with a bright eyes, quick wit, and volumes of personality. It was clear from the start our unacquaintance wouldn’t last long so I started the interview almost immediately, before the chance that something brilliant could escape Maria’s mouth and not get captured by the recording.

In the haste of the moment I chose to record in the coffee shop where we met up, thinking the ambiance was quiet enough. This was a mistake in retrospect. In person, our brains are always filtering out background noise without us noticing. However, in recordings our brains cannot cope with the background noise of a sparsely occupied café. Perhaps it’s the lack on contextual stimuli. Oh well, we’re still brand new it making this podcast and some lessons can only be learned the hard way.

The interview itself was great so if you can bear the sound of an espresso machine and cups being lowered onto saucers, it worth the amateur quality.

This is the third episode of the Endlessly Now podcast, a podcast in which I ask strangers a set of approximately 20 questions to get to know them and humanity better. You can find Endlessly Now on any podcast app. Maria’s is Episode 3.
